I had wanted to try G. Love since I moved to Portland almost 4 years ago and got food poisoning my first time there. I tried to call to let them know both me and my dinner guest became sick after our meal there but I received not so much as a call back as their voicemail is the closest I've come to a human since dining there. We live an easy walk away, but hadn't been to G-Love in a while. (The neighborhood distracts! We'll be back soon!) The service was excellent. Mouhamed gave excellent advice for my husband's chili/cilantro sensitivities, and the drinks, elote, fried chicken, EVERYTHING, was DELICIOUS!! The place was busy, the people-watching was great fun, we agreed this would be a monthly night-out at least, probably more. (We are getting awfully lazy about cooking anymore...)
The food was amazing!!!!! We had the tuna avocado, ensalada, and mole halibut. They do a really good job of combining strong flavors unique ways. Exceptional service as well.
Over rated, over hyped, stereotypical portland. While a lot of negative reviews complain about the price v quantity, I feel those reviews should have gone to bobs big boys or whatever for a start. Id say this is american modern tapas inspired and the portions should be small. Our steak tartar was very good. I dont recall what it was, but the waitress described it as a big fluffy donut, which I thought "that doesnt sound right but ok".
