The depot was finished in January of 1883, handling as many as seventy rail cars a day and housing the areas telegraph office. In later years, Curtis Feed and Coal and the Farm Service Store operated out of the "Freight House," as it was then called. In 1970, the Milwaukee Road Railroad closed the agency and the building was sold. In 1979, the historical significance of the building was recognized and the Freight House became the first building in Stillwater to be placed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The build... read more

This restaurant loves to TOW AWAY YOUR CAR, even if there are hundreds of spaces available throughout town. Do not park in their adjacent lot if you are unsure you want to eat there or unless you carefully read the small signs posted nearby. It will cost you hundreds of dollars!
What a shame! – Stillwater is such a beautiful place and then this restaurant had to ruin it with terrible service. How can you enjoy a meal when you are served by people who need to undergo a basic course in customer service and just plain nice? Whoever screened and hired them should be fired! Our waitress spilled water all over me and my husband. we thought that would be the worst thing that could happen. No -- We moved to another table and had to wait a long time before we got served. Our waitress kept walking around and ... read more
A Dramatic Fall From Grace – Friends and family have been visiting the Freight House for years. The setting is really quite charming: a converted riverside brick industrial building with rough-cut hardwood floors and high ceilings. They have a great outdoor patio that has an enjoyable St. Croix view. The service has historically been slow (and of varying quality) especially on the patio, but the food usually passable. Our most recent visit will probably be our last. Our server was pleasant but, again, slower than molasses in... read more
Stillwater family-friendly restaurant known for big burgers and sandwiches. – In Short Formerly a Burlington Northern train station, this brewpub is on the National Register of Historic Places. Character oozes from the cozy bar: old-time photos of the city displayed on the walls and carousel horses hanging from the high-beamed ceiling. The menu can get pricey and offers variations on American staples: appetizers, salads and entrees (steak, ribs, shrimp)--plus hearty burgers, like the Freight House Burger with sauteed onions ... read more
User review by krish – It's hard to review considering we had the worst server ever here. She was obviously not happy to be there, or to be serving us. which meant no drink refills for us. The patio makes this place. The food is fine, nothing to set it apart from a million other restaurants. Still, it was fun to be out on the patio on a nice Saturday afternoon.
Do not eat here! – The food is horrendous and the service worse. Most nights they run out of half of the menu which is already limited. I would absolutely recommend heading somewhere else at one of the many great restaurants Stillwater has to offer. If you like the club, party, single scene this place is good after the restaurant has closed.
Stunning Disappointment – It is extremely disappointing that it is so hard to find a good restaurant along the St. Croix, and this restaurant serves up disappointment in heaping portions. The Cajun Ribeye steak $20, was the most flat tired piece of meat I've ever tasted, with no trace of Cajun seasoning. Save your money for Ruth's Chris if you're going to pay these kinds of prices. The Chipotle Shrimp Salad arrived with only four shrimp that were clearly fresh from the freezer and had never been touched with a chipotle sauce... read more
Never Coming Back – So sad that such a unique and historical place is absolutely ruined by about the worst menu and service we've experienced in a while. Not a healthy thing to be found on the menu. However, if I'm going to eat junk food, I'd at least like it to taste good. C'mon, a burger with nothing but a lousy bun and a wilted piece of lettuce? I had to go ask our waitress for some tomatoes and onions because she was too busy chatting. I'm positive the rest of the food came right off the grocery store shelf. Stale chips,... read more
Burgers are very good – Freight House burgers are really good. Went on a Sunday evening and sat at the bar. Great server. Great atmosphere. Plan on returning.
