Great food, prices, and service – We discovered Fontaine's by accident but now consider it our new favorite in Virginina Highland. The Monday night special $4 1/2 lb. peel and eat shrimp was excellent and an amazing deal. The gumbo and cajun riceballs were excellent as well - all for amazingly low prices. Our server was attentive and speedy and it was a great experience overall. The menu has so many different seafood dishes to offer that we will be back many times before we ever get the same thing twice.

Disgustingly horrible – Clue1: Lethargic waitress with 3lbs of food splatter on her clothing. Clue2: Watered down Coke that tasted like water. Clue4: My girlfriend's mom said something to me; I replied; she asked if I was sure it was ok. The waitress turns to me and starts forcibly saying "What!? What's wrong!?" I said "Nothing" but she wouldn't give up..."What's wrong, what's not ok!?" I finally shut her up by saying "NOTHING." My girlfriend ordered a plate of shrimp and hush puppies. There were 6 unappetizing shrimpies and... read more

AVERAGE – I can't slam the place, it's not bad, it's just not that good either. The drinks were affordable, but so watered down, that it explained the discounted price. The grilled chicken is so bland that the lettuce in my salad overpowered it. But the service is fine, and the hushpuppies and shrimp fritters are good (but you'll feel like your arteries are clogging up if you eat too many of them). Overall, I'd give it a 5 out of 10.

Neon-drenched Vieux Carre oyster bar draws a crowd in the Highlands. – In Short In what is Virginia Highland's only spot for decent seafood, this elongated and boisterous oyster bar is known more for their hard-partying weekend crowds than their lobster bisque. Post-college fraternity types and attractive gussied up 20-somethings flood the narrow main room, the roaring crowd spilling through the French doors during busy spring days. As much a happy hour destination as it is a serious restaurant, and as a restaurant more of a... read more

Fontaines – This place was a very cool resturant. Very hip crowd, but also casual and laid back. Food was good. Nothing to write home about, but I think you go for the experience and not the food. Good for a first date.

Stick with the drinks – Maybe it was my waitress first day but she was so clueless I had to the bar to get my own drink. The food took 45 minutes and I asked to see the manager but was told they were too busy to come to my table. Snotty better than thou Vir Highland attitude. Get over it your not that cool.

Great Shucker – The people there are friendly, the oysters are fresh and the shucker is good and fast. If you are serious about oyster eating you need to check it out.

You Might Miss It If You Walk Too Fast – Somehow it took us three months of living in Va-Hi to discover this gem, but we can't stop going now that we've found it! Service is unfailingly polite, actually joins in on the fun at the table instead of merely serving and taking orders, food is delicious and not too expensive; forget about the fries if you order a sandwich, hush puppies are the way to go. The bar crowd pours in on Fridays and Saturdays, but don't worry about getting there too late to eat, they'll find a place for y... read more
