DEBT COLLECTORish - I'm not sure if these are scam artists or not. My call was quick. I was told I owed $600+ dollars to a company I've never done business with. When I said this isn't my debt. She said insisted it was. I said ok then send me a letter with the details of the debt and if it's mine, I'll pay it. She said we've already sent you a letter. I said no. i owed money for a medical bill, looks like this company bought some of that debt. They called me and told me the balance i owed. i then checked my medical bill's current balance and it was down by the amount that FAMS said i owed. Not sure why so many comments calling them a scam. I spoke with Lisa and she was nice and quick.

This company buys very old debt. Debt that can not be verified as they say they will send the originating paperwork and never do. I wish more consumers were knowledgeable in debt collection practices and what's legal and illegal. Debt is sold over and over and over again. This company buys debt cheap because it's been sold numerous times (in other words, they buy the debt for a small cost and then try to collect on the original amount PLUS interest and fees. This company is a scam. With all of the changing laws around federal student loan forgiveness, the scammers are out in full force. They target student borrowers to tell them they are in default, but their company can help get you back to good standing. They wouldn't give me any details unless I confirmed my birth date or social security number, so I told them what they should do with their bodies. They are a scam agency. I will be reporting them to a federal agency soon. They acquired my personal information and impersonated a state government agency to try and extract a fake debt from me. They called me several times and when that didn't work they sent a fake letter from my states courts to my home claiming I owed them money. The letter has a fake state seal on it and everything.
