For my 40th Birthday, my husband and I chose this restaurant to celebrate. We were extremely under whelmed by the service. First, my husband called to make a reservation. The person taking the reservation asked if this was for a special event, he said it was for a birthday, yet it was not acknowledged in any way once we arrived at the restaurant. Next, it has been chilly in the city and most people are wearing coats. Most fine dining restaurants in the city have a coat check, yet as I slung my long coat over the back of the ... read more
Our party of six arrived 10 minutes late for a mid-week dinner reservation after phoning ahead to let the restaurant know of our unexpected delay. Upon arrival, we were told that our table was not ready and that we should wait at the bar (and order drinks). We waited 15 minutes, and then were seated at the open table that had been within our view since arrival. This was an obvious tactic by the restaurant to increase our tab through ordering additional cocktails prior to dinner... very tacky for a high-caliber restaurant.Sin... read more
Ive eaten at Fifth Floor several times. The food is inspired, the wine list extensive and the service exemplary. The only downside is that the noise level was high once when there was a large party at a nearby table, but thats nit picking. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Great tasting menu and great wine pairing. Nothing to complain about. Amazing food experience!
I have dined at all the major pricey place in SF and this would be in the top 5. It is pretty consistence in food quality, taste, and services. I called in last minute on my aniversary, and the chef made for us an aniversary cake. Table 1 and 2 is very private. For business function, there are plenty of private rooms that they can put together as they are in a hotel. You cant go wrong with Fifth floor food and services.
Do you remember theres a scene in Matrix Reloaded where the Merovingian was eating in a restaurant while he was visited by Neo, Morpheus and Trinity? Well, this restaurant will remind you of that scene. You take a hotel elevator to 5th floor, and it will take you right to the reception area of the restaurant - with a nice bar. Everything is modern - zebra-print carpet, modernist artwork and furniture. The menu is impressive - the restaurant will comp you with small appetizers in between entrees. If you want to spend a lot of money and get very little in return, this is your place. Besides the fact that our waiter independently brought out a \$50 half glass (Yes, glass not bottle) of wine for one of my guests without even so much as informing me until the bill came, the food portions should have been brought out under a microscope. The food was very good, plenty of butter to keep up your cholesteral count but by the time I arrived home, I was hungry and ate a real dinner. Guess where you wont catch me again.
Everything was really great except the food. It was marginal. It just did not taste complex or interesting. Lots of foam everywhere. OK on my coffee, but not my food. Disappointing.
