Felidia

About this business

Interesting, unusual and downright delicious dishes from the provinces of northern Italy are served at this restaurant, along with some of the most sought after wines of Europe and America. There is also excellent service and charming decor, including terra cotta floors that will remind you of an Italian home. Owned by famed chef and restaurateur Lydia Bastianich, it would be hard to find an uninteresting dish here. Pastas such as the homemade ravioli and risotto with porcini mushrooms are especially noteworthy.

Glad I went Back to Felidia! – I hadn't been back to Felidia for a few years and was in the neighborhood last Thursday night. I managed to get a table with no reservation. The food was better than ever. I had the Bianco Neri with Calamari which was out of this world for my appetizer and then I had the Cod with Tuscan bread soup for an entree. This place certainly still has its magic after so many years. Give it a try if you haven't been there in a while or try it for the first time, it wont dissapoint!

pear and pecorino-filled ravioli... – that pear and pecorino-filled ravioli is awesome, I should've ordered it as an entree though the soft shell crab special was delicious as well. my only gripe about this place was when I made the reservation 2-3 wks ago, they made me give a credit card to hold the reservation and when I called the day of to confirm, the hostess was very rude and said there was no reservation etc. and damn near close to hang up on me. after making me spell my long last name 10 times, she finally figured ou... read more

Food is good awful staff – After watching Lidia's shows we ended up at Felidia. We were greeted but we were not seated for 5 minutes. Five minutes later she asked us to follow her and she took us upstairs. I don't mind going upstairs but our mother is 89 years old. After reaching upstairs mom wanted to wash her hands but bathrooms were two flights downstairs. Everyone in the staff looked at my struggling mom and laughed at her. We spent 30 minutes waiting for a table and mom to get climb steps back and forth. Finally we orde... read more

GREAT ITALIAN FOOD IN A BEAUTIFUL RUSTIC SETTING – I strongly disagree with the posted negative reviews. On May 10, 2007, we enjoyed a SUPERB dining experience at Felidia -- GREAT food (especially the pasta and game), terrific and reasonably-priced wines (with the help of a very accomodating sommelier) and very attentive service. We'd rank it among our best NY dining experiences overall (and the price was quite reasonable as well, considering all the above). Brava, Lidia!!!

This was my fourth visit to Felidia and undoubtedly the last. The service is consistently tired and seems to lack any enthusiasm, or coordination. Although the food is unquestionably excellent, the space is utterly horrible - not a single table in the cramped brownstone seems immune from the constant traffic in and out of the kitchen. The rustic atmosphere is more suitable to an irish pub than a fine restaurant. The 60+page wine list is extensive, but guest selections are tasted by the sommelier before being served - a pract... read more

Not a good example of NYC fine dining – For starters, I had to call the morning of our dinner & add 2 more people to our reservation. I gave our last name & mentioned our reservations were either for 8 or 8:30. I was rudely spoken to by the lady that answered the phone with a "heavy italian accent" (I really hope it wasnt lidia herself...even though it sounded very much like her). She said "I cannot believe how someone doesnt know what time their dinner is, how come you dont know", spoke to me like I was 5 years old, & told ... read more

Terribly Customer service – Maybe good food lousy management with the staff, not accomadating, very ridgid , refuse several requests for a regular menu. They insisted we take the tasting menu. A real bad experience. Sent a letter to Lydia in October of 2006 Today is March 21, 2007 still no PR respinse something like we are sorry etc. Good food does not a resturant make. As a tag ling after about 15 miniutes of trying to resolve the matter and being told our way or the highway, we chose the highway. One secnond later the mana... read more

A VALENTINE'S DAY TO REMEMBER – Every year my wife and i go with 2 other couples on valentines to a restaurant of our choice. It has to be top notch. We do a lot of research and choose carefully. This year we picked Felidia's. All 3 couples are huge Lidia fans and could not wait. This Valentine's Day there was a big ice storm but it did not keep us back. We were greeted warmly, seated promptly and served with much attention and great care. Emilgio was wonderful. Lidia was there and made it a point to come and greet us as wel... read more

A true-Italian experience... – Having lived in Rome for a period combined with being a child of an Italian-born parent, I have become quite cynical regarding Italian cuisine outside of the homeland. However, Felidia did not disappoint and per norm, Lidia did make an appearance. I enjoyed several courses over a period of 4 hours and felt I could have stayed for 4 more. The service was impeccable and the unique cuisine delectable. You will not find anything "parmigiana" here.
