About this business

In the heart of Greenwich Village is Extra Virgin, a small gem of a restaurant featuring a large selection of Mediterranean classics specializing in seafood. The tiny dining room and outdoor cafe are usually full, but the wait for a table is worth the tasty and enjoyable overall experience. Appetizers include fritto misto, curried mussels, and golden gazpacho. Entrees such as the pan-roasted striped bass in clam stew and the roasted branzino are reasonably priced. Choose from a brief list of desserts and wine to top off the ... read more

Make sure to ask what's in the meat – Was there on Sunday nite and ordered the Sunday nite platter - spaghetti and meatballs. The service was fine. Everyone seemed very attentive. When the spaghetti and meatballs arrived, it all looked very good. I am particularly fond of the old spaghetti and meatballs and was not dissatisfied when I started this dish. The meatballs, though, tasted pretty undercooked and I had stomach pains later in the evening. I cannot say there was a direct relation, but I rarely have an upset stomach af... read more

Great experience – Although the outdoor seating is extremely cramped, I would definitely eat here again. The food was delicious (salad and bacon wrapped scallops for apps; steak au poivre and salmon for entrees) and reasonably priced. Great people watching and overall cool, laid-back atmosphere.

Deplorable – It's been a long time since I've been to a restaurant that cared so little about a patron's experience. My dining partner and I each ordered a meat dish, which arrived 4 minutes later, TEPID WARM. What?! They actually served us cooked meat in less time than it would have taken us to go to the restroom, and it arrived WARM! When we complained to the waitress, she duly removed our plates. But when they came back with our food 10 minutes later, they brought us, unmistakably, the EXACT SAME PLATES AS WE HAD FIRST RE... read more

Excellent food and service, but should allow reservations – Was very pleased with my experience at Extra Virgin. Took my partner there for his birthday and we had a great meal - food was delicious, service was solid and the restaurant had a nice ambiance. While the hostess was super friendly and accurate regarding the wait time, this restaurant should allow patrons to make reservations. With wait times of 45 minutes or more typical on a Friday or Sat night (we went at 8PM on a friday), it is rude to the customer that reserva... read more

Perfect little West Village place – Does it get more charming than this location? If you can picture the best West Village street, this is it. A cobble stone street, tree-lined, with a row of gorgeous town houses, tables and chairs outside, and big windows that bring the outside in for those seated inside. Its tight inside, tables are packed close, but it feels cosy, assuming you don?t mind your next door neighbors hearing what you have to say. The menu is awesome ? the best French fries you?ll ever eat, and good burgers, eg... read more

Excellent all around! – We went there on a recommendation and were not disappointed. While a small place, the decor is wonderfully-lit and cozy. The food was imaginative, tasty and beautifully presented. One of us had ordered a risotto which came in a small pumpkin. The sauces with the entrees were original and made the dishes interesting. Service was impeccable and at the end of the evening we received 2 additional desserts compliments of the chef for taking a little longer with the order. Overall excellent, we will be goin... read more

good bloody marys – came here for brunch on sat on the recommendation from a friend who lives in the area and has a pleasant time. I am not big on breakfast so I chose the oregano roasted chicken sandwich (avocado, tomato, pancetta, cucumber yogurt, grilled bread) w/ salad which was quite tasty tho it was like any other chicken sandwich you would get at any place but the cucumber yogurt was yummy. My friend got the banana French toast (caramelized bananas, whipped mascarpone) ? mmmmmmm, sooo good, I love mascarpone, this dis... read more

popularity can take a toll on quality – I used to really love this place, especially the Sunday night special of spaghetti and meatballs! I am not ordinarily a big pasta eater, but they are just delicious, made with three kinds of meat and served with a great sauce. The order is also huge -- it easiy serves two. These days, though, the service can really suffer. I recently went there with a group of six people. We had a reservation, but were seated at a table for four anyway, right near a server's station. It was uncomfortab... read more
