A hidden gem -- an actual, honest-to-God local goldsmith that can forge original jewelry for you at surprisingly reasonable rates. I cannot imagine going to some big box chain after seeing first-hand what an artist can make. She keeps a remarkable collection of unique stones on hand to set in gold or silver, or can remake existing heirlooms with old gems into something new. Easily the best for a truly special gift or engagement/wedding sets.
