This building as a whole was registered as a national historic place and was commercially the oldest hardware store. The two and a half level structure was the original form and is now extended to a four levels building.

It is with great sadness that I see landmark institutions such as this close their doors, folding under the pressures of a new age of competition. I recall my grandparents lamenting of "the good old days" and it is moments such as this to which I believe they were referring. Although I am not a lucky nearby resident, I can imagine the sounds, smells, and handshakes from the proprietors genuinely grateful to serve the customer in ways the new age of competition will neither grasp nor embrace. I am Brooklyn NY born and never had the good fortune of shopping in your store. However, it didn't lessen my saddness to see the SUNDAY MORNING coverage tha you will be closing! I give you 5 Stars for your perseverance and dedication to serving the people of Worcester!
Another American icon is closing... wish I could have taken D Mount there... this hardware store was established before Washington was president.
So sad to hear your story...reminds me of my hometown and the small town grocery ,hardware, clothing stores that are now all gone replaced by walmart... blessings and best wishes for your family.
