Very delicious, authentic Mexican food. Friendly staff, and clean restaurant. Margaritas are excellent!
The best Mexican food outside of Mexico, period.
Driving back to Grand Forks from Minneapolis - just happened to stop in Melrose to eat at DQ. Saw El Portal and went there instead. Win! Very good food, friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere. I had chicken tostadas and husband chose chicken fajitas - which came out sizzling! Wish we lived closer to try the rest of the menu.

My wife and I have only visited El Portal twice, but both times have been exceptionally great. Friendly service, extensive menus, delicious food, filling quantities, great quality ... I can't say enough about how good our experiences have been. Breakfast options, plenty of appetizers, a wide selection of drinks, there's something for everybody here. I haven't had authentic Mexican food in a long time and this was fantastic! I love that they serve chicken soup along with chips and pico De Gallo to start the meal. We had pork sopes and ground beef empanadas. Abbie had a cheese quesadilla with refried beans. She loved it. The food was so fresh and home made. Not spicy at all but very tasty. Even though I was feeling crappy. .This put a smile on my face.
