El Guero Canelo

4.2

About this business

El Güero Canelo, home of the Sonoran-style hotdog, is a casual eatery in South Tucson. The restaurant may not look like much, but it has garnered quite a fan following for its generous, flavorful Mexican fare. Featured on the hit TV show Man vs. Food, it's usually crowded with people stopping by to enjoy the delicious yet cheap hot dogs that come at less than USD3 a pop. Besides this, the carne asada, beef burritos, and chicken tortas are a hit, best washed down with a chilled bottle of Mexican soda.

chicken is juicey – It's good food but nothing special and kinda pricey when you look at the surroundings and service. I would eat there again, but if there is a line, I would leave.

Best hot dog since I've been here........ – Im from Yuma, Az. I moved to Sierra Vista where there is no place for great Authentic Mexican food. Being from Yuma there is just about a Taco or Hot dog stand anywhere. This Resturant is a must stop if you are in the Tucson area. They even have authentic Mexican soda there. Great variety of food and extras.

Worth a trip to Tucson – I eat Mexican food all over North America. El Guero Canelo is the REAL DEAL. Abundant, hot, fresh and delicious. I ate the Burro (no little burrito in this place) and it was great. There is a salsa bar that has freshly cut up cucumbers, radishes, limes, and onion along with various salsas and pico de gallo. Excellent. The price was right, the place is clean. You eat outside on tables. There are mariaches on the weekends. We went to this restaurant due to the review in CitySearch: Right on! Worth a tr... read more

Exceptional Sonoran Hot Dogs! – I just returned back from my first visit to Tucson. El Guero Canelo was one of the places that I had researched to try - in attempts of experiencing some of the local food. As much as I tried not to hype up the visit to El Guero Canelo, I couldn't help it - especially since my girlfriend and I enjoy hot dogs much more than the average person. The Sonoran hot dogs were incredibly tasty. Every bite was simply divine and beyond enjoyable. The Mexican Coca-Cola was also a nice taste. Additionally ... read more

A Tucson classic – My friends and I used to take a drive down to south Tucson for this special treat once a week. It's a typical restaurant as it's pretty much a glorified taco stand with outdoor seating. On weekends, you should expect mostly Mexican families and workers having lunch and dinner. On a weekday, lunch crowd is eclectic with locals plus engineers from nearby IBM and Raytheon sites. My favorites are the caramlo and carne asada burritos. The coke in a bottle packaged in Mexico is also very refreashing cus it's mad... read more

Quality Carne Asada – I ordered the Carne Asada Burrito with the works and it was very savory. I didn't even need to add the fresh pico de gallo from the salsa bar. The carne asada was quality steak with hardly any fat in it. The burrito consisted of fresh green cabbage, white cheddar cheese, and of course the asada. They accept debit. Don't let the exterior fool you. The food is worth it. Open until midnight. Friendly bi-lingual service.

PLUS! They had a Mexican band playing for tips! Self seating, order at window wait for number to be called! Mom and Pops place... worth the visit...
