El Chilito

About this business

If you're anywhere near East Austin's Manor Road, El Chilito is the perfect morning pit stop. This refreshingly simple cafe serves patrons through a walk-up window and offers outdoor seating only. Piping hot breakfast tacos are their claim to fame, but the migas plate and the cochinita pibil burrito (braised pork) are also delicious. The ever-crowded eatery also stocks paletas—Mexican ice popsicles made with fruit or flavored cream. While you wait, watch the speed at which the cooks prepare made-to-order plates or rela... read more

This place is just GROSS!! The food tastes like they started cooking mexican and then forgot, threw in some corn and called it good. BARF! It is expensive, and the hipsters behind the counter are just rude. NEVER AGAIN...

Awesome Food, I love it! – Okay ya'll, these are the best tacos in town. I love going to El Chilito, and could really eat there anytime. I go for breakfast tacos when I don't have time to make my own breakfast, running late, etc. And I'll stop there to bring home food after work. I love everything I've tried there, and the salsa is especially wonderful, tasty, yummy! Sometimes you have to wait 10-15 minutes, but it's well worth it. Some people complain about that, but for the quality of their food, I can wait!

The Hangover Cure and darn good food – I love this place (especially if I drank a bit too much the night before) for a good meal. I would recommend charlie's special for breakfast and picadillo or pescado entortillado with beans and rice for lunch. Also, I like the option to have flour or corn tortillas- I usually get the corn. Its more authentic and in my opinion a lot tastier than Taco Deli. I like getting to watch the kitchen staff use REAL ingredients when they cook and the staff up front always seems friendly.

Ok tacos, inconsistent service – 8 times out of 10 my order is wrong at El Chilito on Manor. And not just sort of wrong, but completely wrong even though it's my order. Double check before leaving that you have the right tacos!

Pricey but wonderful! – The Conchinita Pibil and Tinga de Pollo are my favorite. My girlfriend gets the Picadillo or the Carne Asada tacos. The food is great, the drink selection superb, but the prices are rather high (once you addon should-be included items like guac and sour cream). You kinda get the idea that the staff would just as soon stab you in the eye as serve you metabolic sustenance. Gotta sport the leather cuz the In-Crowd frequents... oh yeah...

and so do I. The chips are hot and delicious, their smokey salsa is awesome, good mole, good ceviche, and they have Mexican Cokes!

Drive-up taco stand perfectly suits its more formal self. – Opening multiple locations is a classic move for successful Austin restauranteurs. This is probably the closest offspring from the original; they're on the same street, serving virtually identical menus. This location is super casual, with a fishbowl-esque kitchen and what can be called partially indoor seating (There's a roof but only screened-in walls.) Guests watch tomatoes roasting, for smoky salsa, and tortillas warming on huge grills. Salads, stuffed burritos,... read more

Good stuff – I'm excited that we finally got an El Chilito in downtown Austin. There's a dearth of good, cheap lunch places here, especially since we lost the Torchy's on 6th street. I love having breakfast taco and a Mexican Coke with a side of black beans. The employees are really friendly as well.
