I would not even give one star of I had the option. My husband and I are there tonight as a "date night". We ordered steak fajitas, top shelf guacamole, a margarita and a mojito. We also ordered 2 sweet teas. We received our chips and salsa pretty quick, but the tea took about 25 minutes to get there...the waitress came and made our guacamole at the table and informed us they were out of onions (this will be important later). I loved the food and the alcohol drinks there. Everybody was really nice and our waitress was more than helpful. I accidently swallowed salsa down the wrong pipe and I was literally unable to breathe. I kept trying to drink regular water to help me talk. She quickly noticed me and came out with warm water, honey and lemon for me to drink. It helped me a lot and I could speak and breathe a lot better. I found her to be absolutely Godsent. Former diner. Service and guacamole were good. Other than that, bad food. Definitely isn't same quality.
Stopped in for lunch today. Had the table side guacamole. Excellent. Then I tried the top shelf club quesadilla off of the summer insert menu. It was really good. Service was spot on. Kudos.
Absolute worst service I have received. Seeing how awful the service was, it's an embarrassment to the restaurant. If you are looking for a good place to eat Mexican food in abilene, I highly recommend Abuelos. It's well worth the cost.

Worst mexican food ever!. My husband and went to El Chico's for lunch today and thought it would be a great place to try. We usually go to Rosa's but decided to try something new. We've tried other mexican restaurants and havent been impressed yet, the worst until now being el fenix. We ordered off of the specials, I ordered the Carnitas tacos and he orderd a burrito.
