Dr. Rivera and his entire team are amazing. Skilled, caring, attentive and extremely responsive! After a melanoma diagnosis I was told I’d have to wait 5 weeks for a consult with the initially referred cancer surgeon. Via my Scripps primary care physician I got a referral to Dr. Rivera. I called for an appointment on a Friday, had a consult on the following Monday, and two days later was in the OR. The follow-up has been just as great. This is the cancer surgeon you want on your team!!!
In the first appointment, he was normal and calm. He told me he would prescribe pain medication after surgery. I did all the diagnostics he wanted, which were awful. Then right before surgery I asked for my pain medication script and he yelled at me for five minutes about the opioid crisis. I left very afraid, and certain that he cared more about a badly managed social problem than he did about my well being. I had stage 2 melanoma on my back. Dr. Rivera was my surgical oncologist. He was so kind, caring and informative. I am so thankful to have had him as my doctor.
Dr Rivera operated on my brother for Colin cancer, my brother did not have the proper insurance but Dr Rivera didn’t care he put my brothers welfare first and did a superb job! This is was medicine should like! Thank you Dr Rivera
