As a medical student I realized my love for surgery the direct action that could be taken to solve a problem. As a resident I realized that I also wanted the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with my patients. Nothing allowed me to do this as much as breast surgery. My life had already been touched by breast cancer when my childhood best friend was diagnosed at 26.
