Wanted to charge me $6000 for a ACL recon under private health. Rang and asked if the surgeon would do it under the BUPA no gap scheme and got complete attitude in return. “Would you accept a 50% discount on your income?” Actually yes I would to help provide better health outcomes to the community. But I mean hey charging 3x the AMA recommended charge for a consult is not enough to cover costs it seems. Apparently better health outcomes come at a cost of 4x the recommended AMA fees for the ACL surgery code as well.
