I had to have emergency quadruple bypass surgery and luckily Dr. Borchelt was the surgeon available. He was very straightforward with explaining the procedure he would perform. He answered all of the questions and concerns that my wife and I had, as we were both in a state of shock that I had a condition that required emergency surgery. Excellent. Simply put Dr. Borchelt saved my 84 year old father’s life.
Upon a reference from Novant, I was sent to Dr. Borchelt for a consultation on my dilated aorta. Despite accepted best practice of surgery for aortas dilated at 5cm, Dr. Borchelt wanted to wait for 6 months. After a second opinion recommended by my cardiologist, I chose to have the surgery by a Wake Forest surgeon, which also revealed two aneurysms. Had I listed to Dr. Borchelt's recommendation, I probably would have died before the 6 month re-evaluation.
