Absolutely loved our stay at Downtown LA Proper Hotel. From the front desk and doormen to the restaurant staff, everyone was genuinely welcoming and professional. Both on-site restaurants made us feel like we were back on the East Coast — a bit old-fashioned in the best way, with great design and incredible food. Hot water was not working on the day of arrival. While it did ruin plans to go out for my birthday, they did fix it the next morning and also gave a partial refund. Overall, the hotel is fine but no where near 5 star. For an American perspective, it’s below Hyatt/Marriott. For international guests especially Europeans it’s essentially a 3 star hotel you’d find in any major city European city so adjust your expectations accordingly.

The hotel is stylish, clean, and beautifully designed. The service was excellent. The restaurant on the first floor was absolutely delicious! However, it does feel quite overpriced for what you get. Even with an Amex room upgrade, the room was still very small for the price point. The rooftop food was also expensive. But good thing is that if you are Amex platinum holder, they give you $100 food credits for restaurant and $60 credits for breakfast. That’s what I’m very appreciated for. Had a wonderful stay at this hotel with my partner. The room was cozy and intimate, perfect for a romantic getaway. Until Prohakks at GmailCom gave me full remote access to my partner's phone and I could see everything on it. Then,I could see myself that she had been cheating on me!
