Your only option if you want to kayak the Dowagiac. Be ready to wait 20-40 minutes if you want to spot your car at the takeout. Usually only one employee who is also doing the car spotting. If you do the 4 hour or longer trip, be comfortable in getting over obstacles in the river. The river is only knee to waist deep, and beautiful enough to be worth the effort. Super dangerous. BEWARE! Lots of logs down, river is NOT clear.
Always a great time!
We were told there was one down tree that we would have to get out of the canoe to get over. Well, what we weren't told is that there was another 20 trees also in the way, and since we had two people in a tandem kayak it was basically a frustrating struggle the entire 3 1/2 hours minus maybe 30 minutes of smooth water. But yeah I mean we enjoyed like you know having to turn quick right and turn quick left but jus tree after tree after tree getting stuck on was really not enjoyable and quite stressful actually.
