One of the premier meals in Portland – I visited DOC despite opinions of some of the reviews on here, and to be honest found them grossly inconsistent with my experience. While the space is small and the kitchen and dining area are one and the same, in no way did it effect the quality of our meal. In fact, one in our party commented about the laid-back, attentive style of those cooking the food-even comparing it to articles and shows on the style of Thomas Keller's kitchens in Napa. needs some fine tuning – My friends and I were in a few days ago and went with the tasting menu and there were a few gliches. I am hoping the owners read these reviews so they can iron a few things out. The first course, antipasti, served on one plate for four people did not have enough food for 4 people. There were 4 rillettes, that were kinda over greasy/fatty and needed salt, but nothing else on the plate was for 4. I was expecting so much better! – I had a great experience at "Beast" 1 block from D.O.C.. I had heard great reviews on D.O.C. and all I can say it is a "Beast wanna be" restaurant without the class of the waiters and the quality of the food. It was noisy, the service was mediocre. Waiters were reciting their little "lyrics" and the food was so so so so bla. Very expensive for what it was! I will definitly return to "Beast"! Please, try to be original in your own way!

My husband said his lamb was some of the most tender meat he had ever tasted. Even the coffee was noteworthy - brewed in such a way that - as our waitress told us - it drinks more like a tea. Just wonderful. Definitely a new favorite. And, while it is pricey, it's worth it. Our dinner for two, shared appetizer, wine, 2 desserts and ... read more
