Dr Sparks is an excellent surgeon. Very kind, takes time to explain everything.
I was sent by the VA to Dr. Dierick Sparks for evaluation of a military knee injury. I went thru a tough and painful physical therapy cycle, so many injections that I can’t remember how many, a minesectomy, and more injections, then I was informed he could not do the knee replacement, that he said I needed. On his portal, it is not even listed that he does them. If he does not do knees, how can he even treat the problem? Dr. Sparks is and excellent surgeon and the most compassionate orthopedist I have ever know. He did both of my rotator cuff surgeries (left, 2017 & right, 2021). He did my husband's below knee leg amputations (2016 & 2019) and reverse shoulder replacement (2017), and a few revisions. We are from the Calhoun county area but wouldn't consider going anywhere but Sparks Orthopedic.
Dierick Sparks may have SOME orthopedic skills, but go to Bham for hand and wrist issues. Had a wrist break, he put it in place with a plate. After many trips back and to therapy, hand did not work properly. BAD pain was a constant issue. Begged him to look further into the issue, he come off like we were stupid. Just prescribed pain pills. Really? After a few more visits he said it MAY be nerve damage that will heal itself, then released me. Dr. Sparks has done multiple surgeries on me, everything from ankle to both shoulders, in my opinion he is the greatest orthopedic surgeon around here, he not only has corrected my problems but he has a fantastic bedside manner, I recommend him to everyone I know. Thanks for everything !
He is very caring and will spend as much time as needed to address your concerns. Wonderful surgeon. I would recommend him to anyone in my family. He has helped me tremendously
