Tommy and Lucille Day established the Daylight Donut Flour Company, which operates as Daylight Donuts, in 1954. By the 1960s, the company s sales had increased so much that a new facility was constructed and more employees were hired. By 1977, there were more than 200 donut shops and a fleet of trucks to make deliveries. By its 50-year anniversary in 2004, the company had opened more than 900 retail outlets worldwide.
