I recently shared my experience with Dave’s Auto Center’s hiring process in one of their public Facebook groups after completing a large unpaid trial edit assignment for a Video Editor role. The post was removed by moderators shortly afterward. What also stood out to me was noticing that a number of older negative customer reviews and critical discussions that had previously been publicly visible on Facebook no longer appeared to be accessible. I just spent multiple days completing an unpaid “trial edit,” and I think we need to talk about hiring processes. This was for a Video Editor role at DAVE’S AUTO CENTER. TL;DR: 100GB+ of unstructured footage, a multi-day edit, and no clear details on benefits, PTO, pay structure (salary vs hourly), or overtime, even after the assignment was submitted. Stopped In , started talking to some young guy , very polite, things going good ! Then Dave came out , told the guy you have work to do , I’ll take care of him ! Things went down hill from there ! Dave’s a ASS !! Taking my business somewhere else !!!!
