Not recommended. I have a 27" iMac (out of warranty) with a fan failing. Called, was advised: (1) that it is necessary to run 2 days worth of tests before they can even go through the steps to determine if a replacement fan is available, and (2) that sound of grinding fan bearings was an insufficient diagnosis to proceed with a fan replacement.
