I don't worry about how long it sometimes takes to get into my appointment. Dr. Espina is so fully present when I do get in, and his care is so personal and lengthy. He gives all his patient's what they need, and if that makes the waiting time longer I feel like a winner. His concern for my physical health always extends beyond a short visit. I think he is fabulous. I would choose him for my internist if I could. All doctors should take lessons from him on patient care.
He encouraged me to have weight loss surgery even though I wasn't a 100 lbs overweight. I told him I was a surgery risk because of scar tissue adhesions and he dismissed it. He told me to wear leaded underwear to allow the insurance company to approve the surgery. The nurse gave me information without me wanting it and said they'd see me in 6 months after I had the surgery. I had been a patient of his for several years and I haven't been back in the past 2 years after he told me this.
