RecommendedWe love, love, love this place. Simple custard and hard serve ice cream, served up with a smile. Love Ashby's hard serve, btw! Everything you could want in a small town ice cream joint!
Today, for the second time in two weeks, I was completely ignored at the counter. Last time the staff working chatted with each other for over 5 minutes while casually wiping down the counter, even when I asked if if we could order. Today they served two people who walked in 3 minutes behind me, when we were standing in front of the ice cream freezer. Not even going to try to go back.
Excellent service! Always stop and get a scoop when we are at the dam.

Great downtown Rockford location!
We live in town and love walking to Custard by the Dam. We all have our favorites! If you are in the market for cakes, they make the best custard cakes you will ever have. My sons ask for them every year for their birthday! Great people, great service, and yummy treats! You can’t go wrong!
Excellent selection of Ice Cream or custard. Great place for the kiddos or anyone, sit out back and watch the fish jump up the dam. Nice staff as well!
Just an amazing experience!! Very knowledgeable about food allergies, went above and beyond!! So excited for my daughter to try new flavors thanks to their Temptation Soft Serve!!
Terrible service every time. Flat out ignored waiting in line and then only served out of order of who was in line first. I was told they serve higher class people first. One time I just wanted to buy a drink a few minutes before closing and was locked out at the door.
