As a regular patient, I saw Dr Cullen last year for new orthotics. He asked me if I could pay him and submit to insurance after the fact. Before my appointment I contacted Blue Cross who advised me NOT to do this, they would not guarantee reimbursing me. I told the office this and left, with no indication that there would be a problem. Now I need care, have left two messages and did not receive a return call. I finally reached Dr. Cullen who REFUSES to see me, saying he was not able to be reimbursed. Dr. Cullen has been my podiatrist for 30+ years, also my foot surgeon. A wonderful and talented doctor. Explains well, doesn't talk down to patients, doesn't rush, treats the whole person (even diagnosed my hip arthritis, and sent me to the best orthopedic surgeon in New England!). Gives painless cortisone shots, does exquisite surgery. Dr. Cullen and his staff has always been professional to me and my friends. I highly recommend Dr. Cullen for foot surgery and orthotics.
Surgery was scheduled and then cancelled after pre-op exam. Notification was handled extremely unprofessionally and at least one reason for cancellation was readily apparent at initial visit. As such, everything after diagnosis was a waste of time and money. Additionally, I sent a confidential correspondence to Dr. Cullen. Apparently he never saw it or delegated a response as I never heard from him regarding this issue. Once again, handling of this matter was incredibly unprofessional.
My husband saw Dr. Cullen for foot discomfort. He recommended orthotics and quoted a price of 275 dollars. However, when we picked up the orthotics, the receptionist said the bill was 475. We told her the doctor had quoted a bill of 200 dollars less and she said, "these are hard orthotics", the softer ones are less". I asked why we hadn't been informed prior to picking them up, of the extra cost compared to what had been quoted to my husband. They didn't help. Another doctor said they were wrong
