The Bands are worth it – I saw a bunch of great, yet not super well known, bands here, Black Taxi being among them. The service I found to be fine, much better in fact to what I've experienced in NYC bars considered swanky or hip; it seemed to me that if anything, the bar staff work here because they appreciate the music or at least appreciate the efforts the performers make. And if that means the 'barmaid' might not always be rushing around, clearing tables, asking, 'would you like fries with that,' well, I think that's pro... read more

Punk, rock, funk, everything – Come check out local bands here trying to make it. The place has pic's of famous punk rockers that made it...just as iggy pop and others. This is a total punk place but you'll get some granola people in here and some pencil necks watching their buddies put on a show. Since people only stay for what they want, the crowd is in and out all nite long. You'll pay to get in...7-10 bucks. Some bands it's worth it while others you want to throw a bottle at them. It happens.

Awful bartenders – I went to see a friend's band, it wasn't very crowded, but both bartenders were very aloof and snobby. They seemed more interested in standing around trying to look cool than to do what they are paid for, to actually have even a passing polite interest in looking out for ppl who want to buy drinks. I'm ashamed to say that I still gave them my money, what can I say I didn't want two idiots to run my fun time. Aside from the wretched service, it's a decent place to catch a show.

The tongue-pierced stud at the mouth of St. Marks Place. – During the day, Continental is difficult to distinguish from the surrounding St. Marks piercing parlors. At night, the 200-capacity black storefront dive rocks the block. Expect to hear punk, power-pop, thrash, hard core and indie-rock from bands on the local circuit, with occasional surprise appearances from punk legends. Once the music starts, conversation is out of the question. The crowd includes NYU students, tourists, friends of the band and itinerant rock musi... read more

I loved The Last Show at Continental. I am pleased that the Continental is booking bands like The Last Show though there are some very cliched and out of touch music still passing through this historic establishment. I know the days of great NYC rock is teetering on vanishing but its good to know there is heart and style in music, though different from the great Ramones and Johnny Thunders, this trio gives hope to New York rock. And they are doing it without wearing trucker hats, whining about how they are born to lose, rapp... read more

Curiosity killed the cat – Good bands, dark and hot and sweaty. Great place for listening for up and commers and experimental bands. Cool scary looking people

Bands Worth Hearing – I ordered a beer and the bartender asked me if the bouncer stamped my hand upon entry. When she handed me the beer I told her that I'm 37, and she exclaimed, "You look GREAT" (Trigger take note - GIVE HER A RAISE!!!) That put me in a fun mood, but on to the music! I stayed to hear two bands, The Kites (from L.I.) and Kaygero. The Kites had great original material and knew how to mix it together in a tight and cohesive way. I enjoyed Kaygero even more, a well seasoned group with a funky bassist. Their le... read more

Happy Hour 4-8 – If you want to start drinking early, go to this place between 4-8pm. There is plenty of room at the bar, and plenty of booths to sit and drink cheap beer. The band is not set up yet, so it is quiet and comfortable. We started there at 5 one night. Only thing, when you start driniking at this time of the day, it is hard to make it past 1 am.
