Great time for all at the Little Wind River Salmon Hatchery!
Hi everyone I just have to say "kudos" to Columbia Riverkeeper, we just won a victorey for the environment and for our quality of life, here in the State of Washington, the equilivant of the Department of ecology has denied a permit for a large coal export terminal on the Columbia river. This is a good thing, the deal with coal is that when it's burned it raises the amount of CO1 in the atmosphere. We can do better by finding renewable energy sources.
Notes from the River Keepers by Holcombe Waller combines stellar music, lyric, theater and analysis of the gravity of a profound threat. His performance is something we were amazed by in Seattle and would highly recommend to everyone we know who has the chance to see it.
We need to stop unhealthy dirty coal and use clean air Sun or wind power.
7 of us showed up, after registering for the event, at the designated spot on Sauvie Island at the time indicated on the Event page. We waited for a half hour, but never saw anyone from Columbia Riverkeeper or a partner organization. We eventually all went peach picking instead, so it wasn't a wasted afternoon. It was, however, disappointing that this was how we as volunteers were left on our own without any communication or contact. We would all hesitate to try to be involved with this organization in the future.
Columbia Riverkeeper has helped us keep our beautiful river safer and cleaner.. Friendships have been forged and our lives enriched by the work of this amazing organization!!!
I want to give a "Shout-out" for the fantastic work that Dan Serres is doing here at the mouth of the Columbia. His professionalism, insight and incredible knowledge base are invaluable to our CREATE group and have convinced our Astoria City Council to go on record opposing the Tesoro project and additional rail transport of fossil fuels. I'm betting that he has also helped build our credibility for future efforts. Jan Mitchell
