Good Mid-Range Wines, Interesting Italians Coit is one of the best wine shops in San Francisco, to my mind specializing in fairly common but "quality" selections in the midpriced to middle-high range (say from $15 to $75) across most Californian and Australian varietals - especially Cab, Pinot, Chard, Shiraz/Zin - with a limited but usually very intriguing selection of good quality inexpensive to very pricey Italians from the Piedmonte and Tuscany (think interesting Langhe's up to some pretty pricey Brunellos). If you want to see a real wine shop, go elsewhere. I had to laugh at the 4 & 5 star reviews of Coit Liquor. These reviewers must have never been to any other wine shop other than Coit Liquor. I'm from Southern Calif. and I come up to San Francisco every year to the Mac World Convention. I have been a wine collector and wine amateur for 25 years. A sub hobby of mine is visiting wine shops. I have visited virtually every wine shop in So. Cal from San Diego to Santa Barbara, so I know what I speak. Coit Liquor has a very poor s... read more
Experienced. Good Selection Great service. Great wine selection. If you're new to the wine scene and need help picking between a Chardonnay and a Reisling, this is the place to go for recommendations and to gain some wine knowledge. However, it's a bit on the pricey side. Safeway offers a much cheaper selection.
GOOD LOCATION AND QUICK STOP I HAVE BEEN TO THIS LIQUOR STORE A FEW TIME AND IT HAD A WIDE VARIETY OF LIQOUR. THE LOCATION WAS GOOD AND STAFF WAS PRETTY FRIENDLY. THE ONLY THING IS THAT PARKING IT NOT EASY TO FIND. PROS: CONS: PARKING IS HARD TO FIND
Great Wine Service I have found that Coit can find great and hard to find wines for me. I really do value Coit Liquors and the service is great. I am in restaurants out of California all the time and the managers do not believe the wines that I am picking up from Coit. I also like the ease of emailing Coit and they find what I want with a same day or next day response.
More of a Wine Store than the Regular Liquor Store I don't drink at all, but many of my friends do. I tagged along with some of them several times, and they seem to like Coit Liquor a lot. I don't have to be a alcoholic to tell that the staff there are really nice, and my friends seem to strike up conversations with them easily. My friends tell me that the prices there are as good as the employees who work there. Looks like a nice wine store, unlike most liquor "corner" stores that I have been to.
