After reading the reviews on tripadvisor, we stayed at the Hampton inn and top 10 places.... until this past weekend. We've stayed at various $150-$200 range places in Santa Cruz and can't believe we've missed this one. It's by far the best value. You can get an ocean view room right across the main beach/boardwalk that's as clean the the Hampton suites and other higher priced alternative. Liked Everything about this Motel – We liked everything about this motel. It seems to have been recently renovated and everything was spotless. The room was comfortable, extremely clean and tastefully decorated. the bed was very comfortable and the bedding was spotless. The Bathroom looks to be new and the towels were spotless. Personal amenities were of a good quality. We will stay here again.
My husband and I were very happy with this hotel. Convenient location across the street from the Boardwalk and beachfront, and there are many places to eat just around the corner or a short walk away. Not at all the hotel's fault, but it can be a bit noisy when the Boardwalk closes at 11:00pm and loud kids coming back to the hotel are running down the the second floor walkway to get back to their room. Front office staff was very polite. We would definitely stay here again!
A Very Good Value – We stayed in Santa Cruz for a few days and found the Coastview Inn to be a very good value. Our room (209) had a bit of a beach and pier view. The bath and dressing area looked recently done over and very clean. The bedroom furniture (king bed) was very nice looking. The only criticism we had about the room was that the rug could have used a shampoo. Although there was a pool, we did not use it. Enjoyed my stay in Santa Cruz. The Oceanview rooms were right off the beach. The hotel is walking distance to the boardwalk as well. Highly recommended and the manger Mike was great.
This hotel is in the perfect spot to check out the wharf, hang out on the Boardwalk, head down town or hang out on the beach!!!! We didn't have a view from our room, but all we had to do was step out on the balcony right outside our door and we could see the wharf, watch people on the beach playing volley ball and street performers playing music and hear the sea lions all from the hotel!!! Would not hesitate to go back again – My wife and I ended up needing a place for one night due to a special event at our regular place. We've stayed in a number of places over the years and in part based on the reviews here decided to give it a try. As other reviewers have noted, Paul is a big asset to this place. We walked in mid morning on a Friday with no reservation and he couldn't have been more helpful in showing us a room, working out a price, and getting us into the room right away. Friendly and Accomodating Manager – I understand this motel has been under new management since August 2008 and has worked hard to overcome a bad rep and to change public perception. Given the reviews I've read from prior to the change in management and the time we stayed there (3/14-16/09) I would say they have been quite successful. Our experience was excellent.
