CleanChoice Energy clearly demonstrates that basic fact. Unfortunately, they don't explain clearly enough to their prospective customers that after the first month they are handing them a "blank check" to charge them whatever they can. I signed up with CleanChoice because they said that it would provide clean energy at no extra fee. I thought this would be better for the environment. I asked several times if my monthly bill would be higher and they said no. However, when I received my bill, it was twice as high because not only was I paying BGE, I was also now paying CleanChoice. This is a complete scam. Their rate is more than 4x higher than 100% green energy provided by the city, they have been rapidly increasing prices every month without any type of notification, and my application to switch to a new provider has conveniently been rejected twice (again without notification).

Has anyone actually proven this company does what it says? They could be profiting in the millions and give 1 or 2% to support the environmental aspect, when all its really about is the millions they make. Wake up people, don't believe everything you hear without researching for yourself. Oprah gave a few million to charity in one year and was praised for it, I gave $150 to Saint Judes, difference is Oprah made 98 million that year and I made $33,000. Does that make Oprah more caring than me, I think not.

Please do yourself a favor and as much as you would like to contribute to the environment and opt for clean energy, it is a scam. They will quietly overcharge you at the absolute highest rates of over 48 cents per kWh, which is over 4x higher than if you stayed with your regular provider. I was not in my 2 bedroom apartment for over 2 months and was charged over $1000 for one month and over $1200 for the second month. They are thieves. They have raised their prices ten times and when you call them they are not at all helpful. PLEASE DONT USE THEM FOR ANY SERVICE!!!! YOU WILL HAVE THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF YOUR LIFE.

AVOID AVOID AVOID I signed up hoping to do my bit for the planet, my average energy use is around $150 pm (two bedroom, two bathroom home), then it leapt to $866.46 for one month, a month with my second lowest consumption so far of 2022! They had sneakily switched the rate up to +40c a unit. The contract notes they can do this after one year in itty bitty writing, no one charges more. They do this with no warning. Bunch of crooks.

I have contacted them 3 times to ask that they stop sending "second attempt" notices for me to sign up as I'm trying to be environmentally conscious and cut down on mail. Nothing works. Would never use them for this reason alone!
