Set in an attractive stone building, Clay Pit serves mostly North Indian food. The chef Maqbool Ahmed is the real McCoy, having served a stint at the Oberoi Hotel in New Delhi, and has brought his panache for the tandoor to Austin. A must eat at this restaurant is the tandoori platter bedecked with chicken, lamb, broccoli, tomatoes and even zucchini. As always, Indian restaurants are a haven for vegetarians and this is no exception, serving dahl, paneer and a lot of veggie curries.

Yum!
This place has the best Indian food in Austin. My personal favorite is the tandoori chicken, which is baked in an authentic clay oven. It’s not too spicy, but still has a lot of flavor, which is perfect for me! My only complaint would be that there was over an hour and a half wait when we arrived, but the bar was a great place to wait in the meantime.

Yummy Indian food with lots of flavor. Naan tasted fresh, a little oily. Food was hot and filling. Skip dessert. Great atmosphere.
When u need a break from the steak, this old standby has plenty of parking and awesome private dining
The Best Indian Food We Have Ever Eaten! – Clean, friendly, delicious. What more could you ask for? Seriously, when my husband and I visit Austin for a weekend, we eat there 2-3 times at least. Then, when it's time to head home to Fort Worth, we make a to-go order and pack it in an insulated bag and eat it the next day once we are home. It's crazy good. Our favorites: Chana Masala, Vegetable Korma, and Veggie Vindaloo, and Aloo Gobi. SO good. They have excellent choices for Vegetarians, Vegans, Gluten-Free, and other dietary... read more
not very good – samoses was bad and smiling wait on table 25 min..chicken tika masala was ok..usely go for another indian resturant indian palace.
Excellent Food and Service – This was our first experience with the Clay Pit. The greeting staff were plesant and efficient. We were seated within minutes of our arrival. The resturant area was very warm and inviting. We ordered from the House Specialities: Kabuli Chicken and Lamb Raganjosh. Both meals were extremely good. The Lamb Raganjosh was one of the best Lamb dishes I ever have eaten. We were very impressed with the Clay Pit, and will certianly return. I do recommend making a reservation, and parking is available adja... read more
Our top Austin choice for Indian food – This is a dependably great restaurant...interesting food, attentive and knowledgeable service, good wine list, and charming ambiance. Pay no attention to those droids who were probably drunk and abusive to the staff...those aren't the people you want in the restaurant with you anyway!
