Worst manager and service of ANY restaurant in Durham/Chapel Hill. Absolutely horrible. They screw up orders, don't care and manager just whines that she's also bartender. Never ever order a to go order. If that happens you're screwed unless you open every box- making everything freezing and taste horrible!! I know restaurants and no way would I recommend this place to anyone, unless you don't mind seeing whose order gets messed up. And "the manager" makes no accommodations, just whines and complains!!! Worst service I have ever received – I visited City Beverage for the first and last time tonight. Upon arrival I was told they had no menus left, but the waitress would bring menus ASAP. After at least twenty minutes I inquired about a menu again and was told by the same waitress there were still no menus. If a restaurant is busy I have no problem waiting, however there were extra menus sitting on almost every table and the staff made zero effort to wait on our table. The worst service ever, anywhere, anytime! – This place has pretty good food but you have to have the patience of a saint to find that out because this place has the worst service of any place we've ever eaten! Frankly it doesn't seem that they're even trying. The last time we were there it took us 45 minutes to get a bowl of soup and another 40 after that to get our main courses. Great food ... love the beer selection! – One of our favorite places to eat out. Casual, good service, good food, good beer selection. Great to sit outside on the not so hot days!

Chef Extraordinaire-Owner on Premises – From the get-go I liked this place. I still would rather do the Lava Lounge than sit in the expanded dining room. The whole triangle has trouble keeping staff, but having the owner on the premises helps. At least they don't try to turn tables. They don't push you out. Be patient, you are now in the South. Fantastic Food at a Fair Price! – First and foremost I'd like to say I've been enjoying City Beverage for some time now. I have just encountered their new expansion and I must say it's great! The colors and decor, like the original, are quirky and unique. The staff as always, was friendly and quick to serve. The majority of them remember you as a "regular" after just a few encounters. Bad service, bad trivia, do not bring your youngins here – This place should not be listed as "kid friendly" as the staff there tends to behave as though they may catch something unpleasant from your children. There is no children's menu (at least none that we were offered) and the regular menu is rife with overpriced yuppie delights that are highly unpractical for kids. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID. For those w/o offspring -- the food is overpriced & the staff is rude.

Here's the skinny – City Bev has great atmosphere and pretty good food. You won't, however, be impressed with the service, it's consistantly slow, the waitstaff is typically young and under-trained and the bartendars are cool unless its busy then they can be standoff-ish (understandably). If you head to City Bev knowing the service stinks and the food takes forever then you shouldn't be disappointed. Just sit back, order two rounds of drinks per person and take it easy. Too big for their britches... – I am an admitted City Beverage junkie. My friends tease me because everytime we go out, my first choice is City Beverage. I have always been thrilled with my experience. Sure...things happen slowly there. but good things are worth waiting for.
