Cicada is regarded as not only one of the best Italian eateries in the city, but also one of the most beautiful spaces. This opulent architectural landmark is truly beyond description. Diners are offered modern Italian fare and, more than one regular patron has proclaimed the Fettuccini Alfredo to be one of the best on the West Coast. The Penthouse is an ideal event space that can be hired for hosting private events and weddings. If you can get a reservation, which is essential, pay a visit here. You won't regret it. Great time last night – My friends and I had a great time last night at the Cicada Club. The place was packed! Jennifer Keith is a fine singer and band featured members of the Royal Crown Revue big band. Looking forward to making this a regular Sunday night event.
Best Vintage Nightclub – For me, the entertainment, food and service is always excellent. Plus the upstairs bar has one of the best bartenders in the city. I have been to the Cicada Club many times and each evening is a delight. I also enjoy the costumed doorman, elevator operator and coat check girl. I have yet to find any other evening like this in the entire city. Stop by the Cicada Club and see for yourself. On a curious note, it's very strange that the previous less than favorable reviews posted before this one were all... read more
Romance on a Sunday evening – The interior of this Art Deco restaurant is incredibly beautiful. Makes a fantastic spot for a romantic date. The food is delicious with the added bonus of an extensive wine list. Our server was friendly and helpful when asked for wine suggestions Love the vintage music and performers.
Not my cup of tea – I have gone to Cicada several times and now feel like I can give it a fair review. A couple of this to say. First off the positive. Its in a beautiful building, and some of staff very nice. Reading through the reviews and what I generally noticed at the club is that there are a lot of die hard fans who come every week, and it seems to me these people are probably giving it good reviews. I am not going to say this place is horrible, since its not but I have to agree that who ever is hiring the acts REALLY ... read more
Don't buy into the questionable posts, this place is always fun on Sundays – I have watched the postings about The Cicada Restaurant off and on since my girl friend and I attend regularly. Most of these negative postings are questionable at first glance. They seem to have a chip on their shoulder or want to redirect guests to another club. First, the food is excellent and priced reasonably since there is no cover. Second, we have spoken to Maxwell DeMille several times who is not only the MC but seems keep a close eye on the... read more
Mediocre – I have been a couple times and I saw the same singer all three times, maybe just bad luck. A previous reviewer stated how the Oviatt building is on the Register of Historic Places, there is no doubt that the building is beautiful, but the caliber of the entertainment they put on and this guy Maxwell who is running everything is not up to par with the establishment. I have to agree with the other posters in saying that he really does not have the personality or the warmth of a professional MC and from what I have h... read more
First and only time at Cicada. – Ok so, I have only been to this place once, so I am not a die hard fan, I just know my friends and I had a bad experience. The sound was really auwful and we could hardly hear the singer, which was too bad because I really like Janet Klein. My friends attend more regularly and what they have to say is pretty in line with what the other posters are saying. The acts never change, he just keeps getting the same people back week after week. If you don't believe me, go and look at his webpage. Max... read more
Sunday Night Hot Spot! – My wife and I were delighted to attend last Sunday's Roaring Twenties Review with Richard Halpern at The Cicada Restaurant. It was our third visit. To say the least this was one of the best nights we have had in Los Angeles. We are in our mid 30's, eat out often, and love to dance to vintage music. The crowd is mixed in terms of age and most of the guests dress in clothing from the 20's through the 40's...and it really adds to ambiance. The wait staff is great. We have had several meals there and the... read more
Weird vibes – The majority of the people that come to Cicada I have noticed are diners in modern clothing that would come to the restaurant anyway and most of them leave after they are done with dinner. The people that come in vintage clothing are mostly the 21-40 crowd who spend most of the time outside the restaurant smoking. I have to agree that the acts are all the same, and that Maxwell Demille keeps hiring the same people over and over. The only good act he's got there is Richard Halpern, hence everyone comes on the ro... read more
