In 1970 this magnificent area was declared a state park. Located within the municipality of Anchorage, Chugach State Park includes roughly 500,000 acres of the Chugach Range and the surrounding landscape. With a 5,000 foot vertical rise and three major campgrounds to the north of Anchorage, this wilderness area is filled with wildlife including moose, wolves, brown and black bears and more. A favorite hike is the 1.5 mile Flattop Mountain Hike which begins at the end of Toilsome Hill Road.

Beautiful park and loved the hiking but too many dog owners don't carry out their dog poop. Poop bags along the trails.
I love the park, but as a hiker and skier with limited time I wish there was one more place that people could access their park a little "deeper' into it to get better snow and more grandeur. A road that would access even part way to Symphony lake would be cool. The demand is there and a large parking would be necessary. (Glen Alps already is over capacity with new parking.
