American rock blends with Chinese kitsch at this popular hangout Chop Suey, a combination leading hipster crowds to flock in to hear their favorite bands perform. Red lanterns, dark wood, and a pagoda-styled stage lend a mysterious air to the interior, where some of Seattle's hottest local groups play side-by-side with nationally touring performers. With large dance floors, extensive bars, and seductive lounge-rooms, Chop Suey offers more of a nightclub atmosphere than many comparable venues, making it a multi-functional sta... read more

Fun! – I read the review and took my ear plugs and had a fabulous time at Chop Suey on 12-29-04. Everyone was nice and friendly as much as anywhere else in this type of place. No one seemed to mind that a bunch of us "Older Folks" were there to support our favorite band in the Battle of the Bands. We has such a good time we would even go again to hear bands with whom we have no connection! Lil_cyr scared me @ the club and he/she didn't need to. It was a fun experience overall.
Watch your bar tab! – Chop Suey was one of my worst experiences at a club. Almost passed out from full capacity crowd, they serve weak drinks and the staff are a bit full of themselves. To top it off, my friend was charged $30 for three domestic beers and two well drinks...I didn't realize a Black Label was $6??! I hope Chop Suey uses that extra money they pocketed to invest in an HVAC system...it's I-Spy all over again! Bring cash, don't start a tab!
quite interesting – I spent Friday night at Chop Suey, which I absolutely enjoyed: quite nice social crowd topped with a good DJ spinning trance - had a wonderful time. the drinks were lacking alcohol, which is a good thing after all.
What a Birthday... – I went to CS on Sunday to celebrate my 21st. I had a great time. The music was good, the crowd was friendly, and it was just better than I had expected. You can't judge it from the outside. Once you have a drink or two you realize it's a nice laid back place to be. Don't let me forget ALL the beautiful people I saw and met (i.e. men). My friends and I enjoyed ourselves and CS will be seeing a lot more of us.
Umm - I don't think so... – I'm sorry, but I was not at all impressed with Chop Suey. I guess I'm just not into the wanna-bee "gangsta's" - and the rap music that goes along with it. The drinks weren't good at all, the music reeked, and well...if your into the bump n' grind music (and crowd) then this is the place to go. I'm not. GIVE ME SOME CLASS!!
Check the place to be heard! – I have to admit that, that is the p[lace to be! I can't believe that the idea of the fact that they turned some regular old breakroom in thei place called chop suey! It is a really awsome place. Since they have been having this night by you son! I have to admit that I love it! I have to give it a rating because there is really no other place that would understand hip hop like I do... hmmmm...it's great!
poseurs give seattle bad name – As near as I can figure, the new thing in music chic is to NOT know how to tune your instrument and the less ability you have to actually play a riff the better. Look like a junkie, act like an elitist jerk, play crappy music and you're in. This is the scene that gave birth to bands like the Strokes and the White Stripes. I love the bar...good drinks, great atmosphere but....MORE DIRTY BIRDS!!! PS: Audrey kicks butt.
Capitol Hill has style? – That's a new one to me. Chop Suey is fun, interesting, good Sunday night crowd. Great place to dance and drink. But, definitely NOT stylish.
Part of the Baltic Room/Cha Cha legacy – Simply put: Chop Suey is a great place to go and see bands/dj's in an urbane, hip atmosphere. The sound system isn't too bad, the drinks are functional and the lighting is excellent (warm red glow). It's a hipster scene - sure, so if that offends you - don't go. The shows can be very intimate there. One thing I particularly like about it is that when the groove gets going it can turn into more of a party than a bar (i.e. - Mark Farina's show in early Nov/O2). Lots of sexy bodies sweat... read more
