About this business

The cuisine served at Chola New York is eclectic, and comes from provinces all over India. With white walls, dark wood and fresh table linens, you can feast like an Indian prince. Try shrimp bhuna, chicken tikka, Bombay calamari or grilled tandoori dishes. Also popular is the naan (flat bread) and Uthappam (a vegetable pancake composed of rice and lentils). Many entrees are spicy, eye-opening and unusual. Half the menu is made up of vegetarian and vegan offerings, while the other half features a great deal of tasty seafood, ... read more

The Best Indian Food in NYC – I have eaten at many Indian restaurants and nothng compares to the food, service and completeness in menu choices as does Chola. Despite some of the average reviews on this site, I have to say that Chola far exceeded my expectations during a recent visit with family. The food is superb and authentic unlike other Indian Restaurants. The choices are varied and cover all of Indian cooking from Northern Tandoori and Grilled dishes to Southern Coconut based curries. Once you get a taste of Chola you ... read more

Exotic and Wonderful – I went to Chola one day to find the charming hostess offer me a warm greeting and a smile. When i looked at the menu, I didn't know Indian food well enough to decide as to where I should start but the waiters quickly relieved me of my indecision and had me on my way to a lovely meal. I ordered baby goat, nan (soft flat bread) and mango lasi. It was probably the best meal I'd had for dinner in ages. The food was well cooked, well seasoned and the service was speedy and helpful. The relaxing atmosphere o... read more

Best Lamb and flat breads in the city – I came here after a few friends had recommended it to me. The decor and ambiance were amazing. The food and both the service were excellent as well. My girlfriend and I split the chicken stir fry and the lamb malabar which was so tasty with a little spice. I would recommend coming here if you have never expirenced indian food before.

Passable Indian takeout in midtown – I have never been to the restaurant but have ordered takeout several times. Thus, I cannot speak to the decor or service. The food at Chola is acceptable - not fantastic or earth shattering - just acceptable. I ate several dishes and somewhat enjoyed them, but given the high Zagat rating, I expected to be blown away. The prices are reasonable and given the scarcity of good midtown takeout, I will probably order from this restaurant again. Also, maybe you get a better experience when you s... read more

Rude Service, Bad Food, Toxic Cocktails – I figured Chola would be good because it was crowded, but I was wrong. Their cocktails were the worst any of us at the table had in over 10 years, filled to brim with the cheapest, foulest tasting vodka and liqueurs. They all tasted like rubbing alcohol. After one of us dared to send one back, the waitstaff became extremely obnoxious. The vegetable samosas arrived dripping with grease on the outside and still frozen on the inside!!! The chicken korma was bland with a sauce that taste... read more
