A Santa Monica Historical Landmark Legendary Chez Jay, est. 1959, is a Santa Monica Historical Landmark located on Ocean Avenue across from the Pier. Known for its steaks, fresh seafood, generous drinks and comfortable atmosphere, Chez Jay is one of the best celebrity hideaway taverns in all LA. With peanut shells on the floor and its famous jukebox playing, Chez Jay is a place to soak up stories, enjoy a great meal, and have a good time.
This place is awesome. Try the shrimp scampi.
Chez Jay is where the real old time Industry crowd is. There is a lot of history here. Not many of the young people who come get it.
Santa Monica Old School The absolute best old school Hollywood hang out. The food is out of sight, prices reasonable and service friendly. Sure it looks like a dump from the outside...OK from the inside too but hey its been there for over 45 years and paint costs a lot nowadays. My personal favorite is the calamari steak. It just melts in your mouth. San-dabs? yes they make the best. I love the house potatoes with their secret ingredient! Save room for the "orgasmic" cheesecake made daily.
I agree this place rocks the house. we went there on a friday night and my friends came into town from Dallas and they were definitely impressed

The best Mushroom Soup known to man!
The food was OK, the prices a bit high but the service was awful. The waiter never came back to our table after serving the food, delivered our food and never took the salad plates and all of our waters were empty when we left having never been filled. But I guess that is why the add an automatic tip of 20% for a party of five... so they don't have to provide good service. We all agreed we would not go back.
