Bad Customer Service. I have gone to Castle-West Animal Hospital for several years. I took my cat there this morning for her annual shots. I did not make an appointment because I have a hard time getting my cat in the carrier. She cries all the way to the vet which stresses me out. When I arrived at the vet's, the office manager asked if I had an appointment and I said I didn't because my cat and I were so stressed from the trip. Not Recommended for Dogs Dr. McGehee seems great with cats and smaller animals but I cannot recommend him for dogs. I know plenty of people who love this vet but we did not have a good experience. In our case, he didn't give a thorough diagnosis and "tried" treatments to save us from paying for unnecessary tests, but we never really knew the real problem. This has meant repeat visits and sad phone calls to a hard-edged, overworked receptionist which resulted in lots of murky unknowns. He really needed to do-or even OFFER an ... read more
The best Vet Ever!! I Have only gone to this Vet once and even though there are vets closer to me I was so impressed at how they handle my Cockatoo I chose them as my regular vet. I took my Cockatoo to have his nails clipped and he used to always freak out and start screaming....so when I went in I braced myself for the usual screaming. He didn't make a sound! I was amazed! kind and caring office staff My first time going to Castle West animal Hospital was a great experience!! I went to take my sick chameleon there! They ladies that helped me, made me feel better about bring him there!!! What being a vet is really about..... I knew of this vet clinic for several years but was loyal to a couple of previous vets. When I had a beloved cat that the most recent former vet knew would need to put down soon AND that clinic put me off (and in the position of having to watch a much-loved friend suffer because they were unwilling to work me in), I call Castle West and explained the situation. Good Veterinarian This Veterinarian has been here in San Antonio for quite some time now. Very reputable and good with other small animals other than dogs and cats. Good Avian vet. Prices for office calls are reasonable and the staff is compassionate about your feelings and your animals.
Castle-West Animal Hospital is an EXCELLENT vet clinic! Excellent vet clinic. Dr McGehee is very knowledgeable. Staff is friendly and compassionate. Prices are reasonable. I started going there 3 years ago, when I found 8 duckings wandering around my neighborhood. They were able to take them and send them to the appropiate rescue organization. Castle-West Animal Hospital is OUTSTANDING! While this may not be the best looking animal clinic I've ever seen, the care & commitment of Dr. McGehee & his staff is INCREDIBLE! He's checked out our cats, hedgehog, dwarf hamsters & now he'll be taking care of our family's new bunny. I cannot stress the importance of having your animal loved one(s) checked upon; you won't be disappointed with their care here!
Great Vet and great staff I have taken all of my animals to Castle West for over 10 years. Dr. McGehee is great with everything from my aging Golden Retriever to my African Spurred Tortoise. He is also great with people. These folks are nothing short of perfect. The clinic isn't much to look at but the care is outstanding. His techs are some of the best I have ever seen and I too have been to lots of different vets. I highly recommend this place.
