I consider myself a knowledgeable person with my child's issues as I have an infant with some challenges, so we've been to many specialists. I was overwhelmed at the help we received at Carolina Pediatric Dysphagia. My child would have had a g-tube placed in her without their immediate assistance. My doctor had originally sent me to UNC for help, but after 2 months I was very frustrated. At this point my child took a turn for the worse, was diagnosed with failure to thrive, and they were considering admitting her to the hosp... read more
At 10 months old, my son was not transitioning to solids. He was exclusively breastfed and was a great nurser, but for some reason he would not eat solids. He would gag and make himself throw up, arch his back, turn his head, etc. After speaking with our pediatrician, he referred us to a Feeding Therapist. After our first appointment, I knew we would never be going back because we had such an awful experience. In a nutshell, the OT that we saw suggested we force feed our son three times a day until he finally started eating ... read more
Carolina Pediatric Dysphagia is amazing! Our third son is 16 weeks old and was born with Down Syndrome. He spent four weeks in the NICU and was finally able to come home on a G-tube. We started calling around to find a speech therapist who specialized in feeding and Carolina Pediatric Dysphagia came highly recommended, plus they had someone who exclusively worked with babies! Although we qualify for in home therapy through the state's Early Intervention program, we felt working with Carolina Pediatric Dysphagia was the best ... read more
Our 5th child bruised her tongue during delivery and refused to nurse. Being a firm believer in the health benefits of nursing and having nursed my other 4 children, it was devastating to me that our new baby would not nurse. EVERY medical & lactation professional we visited tried unsuccessfully and we felt more and more hopeless… until we met Joan. She was able to diagnose EXACTLY what was wrong, prescribe exercises to help the baby nurse properly. I had to learn to be patient and not rush my baby by teaching her bad habits... read more
I love Carolina Pediatric Dysphagia!!! We started seeing Morgan when our Pediatrician referred us for our 2 yr having trouble eating and choking frequently on food. He loved Morgan and even tells everyone now, "Ms.Morgan says chew on side." We didn't end up needing therapy very long and were educated by Morgan on what we needed to do everyday to continue working with him. Thankfully we have not had a choking episode in a while! When we started having feeding issues with our 4 month old we knew exactly where to take him. We s... read more
Carolina Pediatric Dysphagia has been a blessing for my grand daughter. At just a few weeks old, she was diagnosed by a team of WakeMed & UNC doctors as "failure to thrive" -- because she was exerting more energy to try to eat than the nutrition she was able to get from each feeding. They recommended my daughter take her to CPD. They have been wonderful for her. Feeding therapy helped her so much, and Stephanie used several great techniques as she helped her progress. Her natural instincts were not enough, but Stephanie expe... read more
I was originally referred to Carolina Pediatric Dysphagia by my Lactation Consultant when my son was around 2 months old and I was exhausted and completely stressed out from dealing with a child who screamed for hours after he ate. Joan knew exactly what was wrong and took care of the screaming on the first visit and showed me how to pace him along with other advice to help with his reflux. Since then we have seen Joan and Morgan. My son is almost 9 months old. I drive almost an hour once a week to see them because I know it ... read more
Carolina Pediatric Dysphagia is AMAZING! My daughter started going there for feeding therapy when she was just 6 months old. She had many medical issues and many were figured out through therapy that even her pediatrician wasn't able to. We learned that she aspirated liquids and were taught how to properly thicken them. She had no idea how to eat solid foods and through 14 months of feeding therapy, with steady and ongoing progress, she graduated and has maintained the eating skills that she learned for that past 8 months! S... read more
Carolina Pediatric Dysphagia made all the difference in my son's therapy. Stephanie from CPD made more progress with him in his first session than three previous therapists from other practices made in many, many appointments. She is patient, keenly observant, and just so incredibly fantastic at what she does. Everyone at the practice is very nice and professional, and they have gone out of their way to make therapy affordable and convenient for our family.
