The BEST kept secret BYOB Italian eating in town! – Go buy a lovely bottle of Red wine. Then make a reservation here- you will be ridiculously, gloriously happy that you did- You MUST have the green bean, tomato and homemade Mozzarella appetizer, the minestrone soup, then the Agnioletti Rossini Pasta and finally the tiramisu. The service has always been superb, the servers are knoweldgeable and will reccommend what is freshest, most flavorfull and new for the season. I think the surly reviewer below must've got lost on the w... read more
Stale Bread and Bad Olive Oil – Why don't restaurants ever check the olive oil they put on the table for dipping your bread? This is something I've expereinced at many other restaurants as well. But what distinguished Caro Mio was the fact that this was the rancidest "olive oil" I've ever tasted. - not that it matterd much- the bread they brought before dinner was really unappetizing. We should have taken this as a sign to get out before things could get worse - and they did. I ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese - what an insip... read more
Candlelit tables and a B.Y.O.B. policy make for a casual, romantic vibe at this neighborhood Italian spot. – The Scene Caro Mio bustles with a friendly neighborhood crowd, drawn to the modest one-room eatery by reasonable prices and a BYOB policy (your server can provide fixings for mixed drinks). The dining room is simply decorated with burnt orange walls and mix-and-match curtains, but a welcoming vibe and romantic lighting more than make up for the humble surroundings. The Food No surprises, just consistently good by-the-... read more
Excellent Place – We just went to Caro Mio and were so impressed. The food is to die for! It is such a cute little place and the service is excellent. My husband and I went for our anniversary and we will definitely be back!
pretty good – it seemed to be a pretty standard italian restaurant. very good food, large portions, the waitress seemed like she belonged in a diner and the music was a bit eclectic and odd- some ella fitzgerald, ani difranco, tori amos? for an italian restaurant. the food was very good, but i don't know that it inspired me to run back there in a hurry.
WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL,WONDERFUL! – My husband and I went to the restaurant for our 4th anniversary in July 05. It was my first time in Chicago. Though the restaurant was full, we still felt the romance in the air. We opened the meal with the green bean salad (fantastic). For dinner, I had the chicken vesuvio and my husband had the lasagna. The portions were so large, I could have fed 3 other people with my dish alone. Because it was our anniversary, they through in a slice of the most wonderful cheesecake on the house! I can ... read more
Will not be back – 4th visit to CM. Server would not let me have any soup but potato even though they also had minestrone. Finally, the server acquiesced and let me have the minestrone. 4 slices of thick, tasteless, very un-Italian like bread were provided. We ate these with our salads & asked for more. 2 slices were brought & placed in front of me. I thought "how odd?" Asked for parmesan cheese for my minestrone which was parceled out as if it were beluga caviar. Cheese never offered for entrees. Bill came with "extra bread... read more
Best Kept Secret in Ravenswood... sssssshhhhh – One of my faves! Excellent food prepared from scratch, intimate & romantic ambiance, friendly & knowledgable staff, and plenty of neighborhood regulars. It all adds up to something sublime. I've been here half a dozen times and have never had anything less than a great dining experience. It's small, so reservations are mandatory for large parties. The entrees are a little on the expensive side, but you save $$ with the BYOB policy. So many great dishes: green beans and tomato s... read more
a little delight – A charming little storefront restaurant, very warm, inviting, nice for just a couple or for two couples, not a place for a large crowd, it would ruin the ambience. The owner was very much present and came to the table several times to make sure all was well. The salad caprese was terrific, I had a veal dish that was lovely, my friend risotto that was equally good. We were stuffed so could not have dessert! I am planning to take some friends there in two weeks I liked it so much.
