Pretty bummed out over this car. Drove 3.5hrs one way to see the car. They knew I was coming since Thursday. Unfortunately the car check engine light was on and it was misfiring. Really wanted the car had cash in hand. I’m bummed. The other Durango they had was waiting to get fix. So I couldn’t look at that car either.
Carlson Motors sits on top of a small town called Troy, Idaho. Anytime I have talked to Doug the owner, he always has a smile and seems to be very honest about the cars he sales. In the past I have purchased a couple of vehicles from him and have never had any problems. Great establishment.
I received an immediate reply and scheduled time to view the car, which was exactly as advertised. I did not make a purchase because the car was older than my liking and I wanted to keep my options open. Their selection is limited and they are off the beaten path, but they’ve been around for a while and seem trustworthy. I would visit Carlson’s again for the right car.
Was told I had the car. I agreed to buy it. When I got there to sign papers and pick up the car, he had sold it to someone else. I consider this unethical.

So, owner was out of town and I worked with a salesman that I guess has been there for two years.After test driving this vehicle and listening/looking at it found it was in need of about $3,500 of repairs. The ticking brings up the attention needed to the timing chain and cam phasers and both cv axles are shot (wouldnt drive it if I would have known they were that bad) along with the rear differential leaking. This vehicle had been through the shop and checked out good. It has since sold to a customer who is very happy with it.
Small dealership, but owner was great. I felt he had a good selection of quality cars, not low rate auction types. I bought a nice Pickup from him for a great price. Very helpful and no problems. He even helped me load my motorcycle in back of pickup to take back to Oregon. I would definitely use him again.
