The Giotta family opened this charming cafe in the 1950s, making it the first espresso bar on the West Coast. Now, it is a North Beach staple with its polished wood surfaces and celebrity-photograph-lined walls. You'll get the feeling that if Chris Isaac, Bill Cosby and Tony Bennett are loyal customers, you should be too. Along with excellent coffee and homemade cuisine, enjoy the live music; several family members and a boatload of regulars are professional singers. Perfect for relaxation. I stay here every morning for an early coffee run! I love their blends and the place is so quiet and peacefull, perfect for relaxation.

Terrible experience, they tried to overcharge me for a couple of expresso, then the guy at the bar yelled me saying that I was not clear about my order and told me that was my fault with a really nasty attitude. After that when I made him notice that I am the customer and if there is an error he should try to set everything he gave me back the money and didn't make the two espresso I asked for! Warm coffee bar, ok food Caffe Trieste is in my neighborhood and almost always packed. I can only imagine that it's a draw for the atmosphere because there's usually a long line to wait in and the tables are super cramped together. Somehow everyone seems to be having a good time though..
Best Italian Coffee in North Beach This historic coffee house has been a North Beach fixture for over 50 years. This is where the local San Francisco writers and poets still hang out, having a coffee in the sunshine, playing guitar and singing along. There is a wide choice of coffees and the Trieste has its own brand of beans. The regular coffee with aerated milk is perhaps the best. Opens early morning for breakfast and remains open till late night. PROS: Local ambience CONS:
Horrible place to eat. I do not recommend.
Coffee with my honey while people watching and the occasional street musicians.
Love Caffe Trieste—And their special musical events!
