Our building is a special place. Built in 1923 by polish immigrants, Paul and Bernice Zukowski, it has been a part of Hamtramck history for more than eighty years. In those days, it was a typical corner store. In the front they sold everything from fresh meat and produce to brooms and laundry detergent. The back housed a soda fountain and candy store. Stars say nothing other than indicate our satisfaction. It was late morning on a March Tuesday. We were a party of six, everyone ordering a different coffee drink. All six were happy with their drinks, including one of our party who works at a (nearly-nationwide) drive thru coffee place. The atmosphere was chill. This is a special place for me. The sense of being enveloped in the history of this building has a welcoming warmth. Just get a cup of coffee and surround yourself with books. The staff are always friendly in this hub of the community.
