Architecture/Ambiance: By Degrees is in the old Fallsway Spring building. The space is striking from the moment you walk up. The windows are floor to ceiling and the whole space is concrete and metal. It might have been a little too minimalist for some, but I love the industrial look. There's a nice, decent-sized bar and a lofted cafe area. It's not large, but it's big enough to be called a cafe. Service: We had two different waiters and both were very nice. I am a native from the Pacific Northwest and was transplanted to Baltimore. One of the things I dearly miss from back West (Seattle), is Real fish and chips. Ivars and Pike Street fish fry were my all time favorites from back home. Seattle has absolutely the best in the world so I've been a bit spoiled. Between Baltimore and Washington I've been fairly disappointed. I found by Degrees- Hands down the best fish and chips in Maryland. I had the Roasted Pork sandwich which I would definitely order again. A bit of a kick with the spicy aioli and very moist pork shoulder. The pork is not pulled or shredded, but that is for the better. The chips that come with it are house made and seasoned, however I might opt for the salad next time. The chips had great potential, but they were a bit stale. I have a weakness for great chips though, so I'd give it another try as this may have been a one-time situation.
