며칠 전 엄마의 말을 듣고 나는 깜짝 놀라고 엄마한테 너무 미안한 마음이었다. 몇 달전 엄마는 눈이 침침하고 사물이 흐릿하게 보여서, 밴쿠버에 있는 한국인 홈닥터를 찾아가서, “한국인 안과 전문의가 있다고 들었는데, 그 한국인 안과의사에게 진료를 받게 referral note를 써 줄 수 있냐” 물었더니, 그 한국인 홈닥터가 하는 말이 “캐나다에 이민 와서 살면, 영어를 공부하든지, 한국 통역사를 데리고 영어로 진찰을 받든지 해야지, 영어 못한다고 한국인 의사를 만나게 해달라고 하면 되겠냐”고 야단치듯이 말하면서, 기어히 “보내 줄수 없다”고 하였단다. 나는 현재 미국 산호세에서 로스쿨을 다니고 있어서, 통역으로 엄마를 도울 수 있는 형편이 아니라, 부모님한테 항상 송구스러운 마음 뿐이었는데, 이번 일을 듣고 우리 부모님 세대가 겪는 언어 장벽을 전혀 이해하지 못하는 이런 한국인 젊은 의사가 있다는게 믿어지지 않았다. 결국 엄마가 이 사람을 홈닥터로 찾는 이유도 그 자가 한국인이기에 만나는건데, 전문의는 한국인에게 보내줄 수 없다는 얘... read more

Staff at front are always friendly and reliable with follow up calls and emails. Dr. Naikker is an amazing practitioner who’s consults are thorough. I feel good having her as my GP a because she follows me so closely as a patient.
