Grandma fell and broke her arm when an impromptu fire drill was sprung on residents AND many of the staff members at Brookdale. It seems stupid to have such a drill w/o some extra support and precautions. These elders are at the end of their life , and cannot heal from wounds like this. Now grandma cannot use a walker or use the bathroom with the aid of a single nurse. She needs three nurses now! Who knows if she’ll ever heal! Be very wary of the memory care facility. Rates will increase quickly as administrators will tell you your loved one needs more and more care requiring more staffing. However, staff often does not increase and the services you will pay for will not be given. Staff is not proactive in thinking of ways to help the residents, however if you try to improve the service for your loved one by talking to the staff nurse or executive director, they will push back and make any improvements almost impossible. Staff, management and quality of care has went totally down hill over the last 6 months. It looks nice, but isn't. Your loved one will sit in dirty diapers, they will sit in front of food and won't receive help. You will have to hire hospice or another service to see that they are getting cared for. They'll start you at around 5K a month and you will quickly go to 12K. Don't be fooled by the appearance.
We have the best caregivers and staff. Our staff goes above and beyond to care for residents daily.
They get bologna sandwiches on white bread with canned soup and potato chips almost every other evening meal--terrible unhealthy food (high in sodium and carcinogenic). Some of their staff are rude and talk down to my mom. The executive director does not return phone calls. (still waiting for a promised call from two weeks ago). Another resident was laying in my mom's bed today (second time this happened) which greatly upset her. Bathtub is dirty. Expensive clothing items were stolen and still not returned.
