My experience at Koehler for my first mammogram was wonderful. However, I required a follow up diagnostic mammogram at OHSU South Waterfront. It was abnormal but the radiologist and fellow who reviewed my imaging did not come out to speak to me. I was initially relieved, assuming that indicated things weren’t too concerning. But I later had questions and was really anxious as I had no idea what the findings were and why they were classified as “probably benign”. I’ve been totally upset about the handling of my diagnosis. I’ve spoken with three nurses since then who all had completely different scenarios. The first nurse kept asking me, two minutes after informing me I have cancer, are you going to do treatment in Portland (because I live on the coast). I couldn’t even think straight at the time. What treatment will I need? Then she starts naming years long medical treatments and I’m falling to the ground scared. Second nurse who calls says good news, only surgery.
