Aside from clinical skills, I appreciate a doctor who has a caring and fun personality. He treats my husband, and I just tag along. However, he has excellent communication skills and very informative, helpful patient education. Some doctors don't want to take the time to explain things, and he does. And, if I disagree, he listens and doesn't get all doctor-y about it.
